Our Mission: At Rebecca M Blakeslee Law Office, Rebecca offers Family Mediation Services; the mission is to facilitate constructive communication and resolution in family conflicts, fostering understanding, cooperation, and healing.

Every family has the potential to overcome challenges and emerge stronger. By providing a supportive and impartial environment, families can be empowered to find their own solutions and move forward positively.

Why Choose Mediation? First, mediation is generally required in family court cases in Illinois when the parties to the case (usually the parents) cannot agree how to allocate parenting time (who has the child when) and parenting responsibilities (how the parents are going to make decisions together.) It is very possible; even likely, that you have been referred by a judge to mediation and that you are actually under a court order to mediate your disagreements.  The Second Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Lawrence, Crawford, Richland, and Wabash counties, and several other counties as well, has local court rules about how mediation is to be conducted.

Besides the fact that mediation is now required in many contested court case, mediation offers numerous benefits compared to traditional litigation:

  1. Collaborative Approach: Mediation encourages open dialogue and cooperation among family members, fostering a sense of ownership over the outcome.
  2. Empowerment: Parties retain control over the decision-making process, ensuring that agreements align with their unique needs and circumstances.
  3. Confidentiality: Mediation sessions are confidential, providing a safe space for honest communication without fear of public disclosure.
  4. Cost-Effective: Mediation is often more affordable than litigation, saving families time, money, and emotional stress.

Our Mediation Process:

  1. Consultation: Rebecca meets with each party individually and / or the parties jointly, depending on the circumstances and desires of the parties, to understand their perspectives and goals, laying the groundwork for productive mediation sessions.
  2. Joint Sessions: Depending on the family dynamics, facilitated joint sessions allow families to discuss their concerns, explore options, and work towards mutually acceptable agreements.
  3. Agreement Drafting: In the event an agreement is reached, Rebecca can assist by drafting clear and comprehensive documents that reflect the decisions made during mediation.

Cost: The cost of mediation is $600.00 for up to three hours of mediation services.  Generally the parties (usually the parents) share this cost.
